More than 30 planning applications have flooded into Derby City Council in the past week, including permission to build Zapp shelters at Alstom train builders and a change of use application to give a new home for Bamfords Auctioneers. Most of the rest of the applications are domestic and include a vartey of extensions and complete new houses.

Alstom already has a Zapp shelter, which is used for storage, and the company wants to add two more to its site in Litchurch Lane. The futuristic-looking buildings are integral to the company's train manufacturing process, according to the application. While Bamford's wants to move its fine art auction house to a former snooker hall in Spondon.

Two branches of Wilsons Pharmacy at Oakwood and Sinfin are hoping to get planning permission to install automated prescription collection machines. This would allow pharmacy staff to dispense the medicines as normal and then load the dispensed bags securely into the machines using barcode technology. Customers are notified that their prescription is ready and provided with a 1-time-use-only PIN number, which they use to collect the medicine, which only takes a few seconds.

People are entitled to comment on planning applications and public consultation usually lasts around 21 days. Applications are usually decided within eight to 12 weeks unless they have to go to the planning control committee for a decision, which could be a longer process.
